A Guide to the Sullenberger Aviation Museum in Charlotte

We recently had our second visit to the Sullenberger Aviation Museum and I wanted to put together a full guide to help families visit this awesome attraction in Charlotte.

The new museum galleries explore the planes, people, and industry of aviation in the Carolinas. More than 40 iconic aircraft inspire visitors to pursue their dreams of taking flight and write their own stories into the future of aviation.

Check out my Instagram Reel on the Aviation Museum.

📍Location: Across from Charlotte Douglas International Airport 4108 Minuteman Way, Charlotte, NC 28208

Things to know:

  1. Parking is easy and free

  2. The museum has over 40 authentic aircraft and family-friendly attractions including the actual US Airways Miracle on the Hudson Aircraft that landed in the Hudson! The museum is beautifully designed and will be so exciting for kids and adults that love planes!

  3. The museum is very manageable due to its smaller size and everything is stroller friendly.

  4. There are several aircrafts outside and a take off viewing area so it’s best to visit on a day it’s not raining to take advantage of the outside area.

  5. Take time to watch the video that describes what the Miracle on the Hudson flight was like

  6. Inside there are several aircrafts that kids can get inside of and a some take off and landing simulators.

  7. Be sure to take your time walking the main hall so you don’t miss any of the exhibits.

  8. I think the sweet spot for kids ages would be 5+ but I do think younger kids will enjoy the museum too.

  9. Make sure you stop by the Honeywell Makerspace to build a paper airline or rocket. My kids love this area!

  10. This is a great place to bring out of town guests and be sure to stop by the new Airport Overlook Park for some additional aviation fun! Overlook Address: 5130 Airport Overlook Drive
